Kalimpong winter tourism festival gets under way

YOWAN MOTHAY, EOI, KALIMPONG, JANUARY 30, 2024 :  A two- day Kalimpong Winter Tourism and Cultural Festival started from Tuesday under the joint initiative of the Gorkhaland Territorial Administration Tourism Department and the West Bengal Tourism Department, focusing on tourism in Kalimpong. 

Kalimpong MLA Ruden Sada Lepcha inaugurated the festival at the Kalimpong Town Hall premises. This festival includes various programmes that connect the tourism of Kalimpong with different places in the country. 

Stakeholders in tourism from different regions of the country arrived in Kalimpong during the day. Various cultural events and exhibitions will be arranged in the course of the two-day festival. GTA Tourism Department Coordinator Dawa Gyalpo Sherpa said the main focus of the event was to showcase and promote Brand Kalimpong to the associations of travel agents pan-India. 

Flower exhibitions, handicrafts, ethnic food stalls, adventure stalls, photography exhibition and sale would be arranged in the town hall premises. 

On the second day, a visit to the Damsang Fort would be arranged and archery events would also be showcased. 

Students would participate in a sit-and-draw competition on the theme ‘Kalimpong and its culture.’
