‘Don’t shout Gorkhaland when elections are coming,’ says Anit Thapa at BGPM mass joining rally
Don't Miss
YAWAN GURUNG, EOI, MIRIK, 22 DECEMBER 2023 : In a mass joining programme at Alay playground in Mirik, more than 2,500 families joined the Bharatiya Gorkha Prajatantrik Morcha.
Welcoming them to the
party, BGPM president Anit
Thapa said this support was for
the new thoughts introduced by
the BGPM, new ideas, work done
and the style of functioning
introduced in the hills.
It was a support for the work
of the BGPM for the community
and the progressive ideas of the
party. “Those who support us
today are the seeds that will be
planted in the hills for our
thoughts.”
As Anit Thapa could not visit
all the villages, a centralized
event was organized during the
day in Mirik to facilitate
supporters of the BGPM joining
the party. Among them were
supporters of other parties,
members of panchayat samiti and
gram panchayat.
Senior
Trinamool Congress leader Binny
Sharma also joined the BGPM.
He said any setback to the
BGPM at this stage would harm
the development of the hills. The
BGPM was now trying to set the
education system in the hills in
order.
“They call us traitors who
have betrayed the cause, We have
seen big traitors doing the
business of politics in the name
of the community,” Thapa said,
taking a dig at the opposition.
Talking about Gorkhaland, he
said: “We have reached here after
a long journey. We have worked in
the right direction. Time should
be given to bring the hills to the
right destination. We all need
Gorkhaland. It is for the Centre to
provide this. We have passed the
Gorkhaland resolution in the GTA
Assembly and sent it to the Union
Home Ministry.
Our capacity is
limited. We should not shout
Gorkhaland only when the
elections are coming. The Lok
Sabha elections are coming. We
will take decisions which will
benefit the society, community
and the hills. We are working to
get our land deeds. The land of
our community should be in our
names.” BGPM general secretary
Amar Lama also addressed the
meeting.
