Four projects prepared by schools of the district selected for state level Congress
KalimNews, Kalimpong, 17 September 2023 : The district level congress of the 31st National Children's Science Congress (National Children's Science Congress) concluded today at Kalimpong Gilrs’ Higher Secondary School. Of the various research based projects presented on 15 subjects prepared by the 15 teams of 13 schools of the district four are selected as promising projects of the district.
Among the projects prepared by the students who participated in the Kalimpong district level congress, in the senior group, project of Kalimpong Girls’ Higher Secondary School’s Prashanti Sunwar- Reassessing the merits of Underrated Millet (Kodo) of, project of Tista Bridge Higher Secondary School’s Nikita Ojha -Conservation of Decreasing Spring water in Hill areas, project of St. George’s HS School’s Muskan Mahato- Wild edible fruits of Kalimpong district and their economic potentials, project of Dr. Graham's Homes school’s Spandan Manna from the Junior Group- Reduction of Heavy Carbon emissions & Traffic Jam of Kalimpong Through Affordable E-Cycle were adjudged the promising ones. These projects will represent the district in the state level congress to be held on 7th and 8th October at Hindu School and Sanskrit Collegiate School, College Street, Kolkata.
While preparing these projects, the students have to make researches and in this way they are getting the opportunity to learn about the problems that we see around us and think about their possible solutions, natural resources and their new uses, as well as the scientific study, discovery, analysis, etc. of contemporary issues. It also has provided teachers with equal prospect to do some dynamic things, to refresh their previous knowledge, and to teach new things to the students. This project has also given teachers the opportunity to bring out their potential, develop it and prepare to enter into diverse fields for their career. Arun K Rai, the district coordinator of Kalimpong of the National Child Science Congress, said that it can give an opportunity to compete in the district and to the state and to the national level for fostering their aptitudes.
The group leaders of the selected schools will leave for Kolkota on 6th October to attend the 31st State level Children's Science Congress to be held on 7th and 8th October at Hindu School and Sanskrit Collegiate School located in College Street, Kolkota In the state level congress, 1781 projects have been presented at the district level congress held in the 24 districts of the state, of which 15 projects were from Kalimpong and the highest being 152 projects presented by the Birbhum district.
The district level congress has been organising in the district of Kalimpong since 2019. The participating schools of the Kalimpong District Level Congress of the National Children’s Science Congress (NCSC), were Suruk Mondodari Higher Secondary School, Bagrakote HS School, Lava HSS, Alagarah HSS, St. George’s HSS, Tista Bridge HSS, Dr. Graham's Homes, Army Public School, Pranami Balika Vidya Mandir, St. Philomena’s Girls' HSS, SUM Institution, Kalimpong Girls' HSS and Chandamaya HS School.
