Bimal Gurung campaigns for separate state in Dooars region

SNS, SILIGURI, 20 SEPTEMBER 2023 : Gorkha Jan Mukti Morcha (GJMM) chief Bimal Gurung has started touring Dooars region faith a view to strengthning his organisational base at a time when his party's youth wing is in sit in demonstration in Delhi demanding separate state of Gorkhaland.
Mr Gurung has started visiting the Dooars region from 18 September (Yesterday); he held a meeting with his party leaders at Dalsinghpara.
Reliable sources said Mr Gurung has appealed other organisations, who have been demanding separate state in North Bengal, to come under an umbrella to demand separate state of North Bengal.
People of this region, especially in the Hill's, Terai and Dooars, who have been demanding separate state of Gorkhaland, are confused over Mr Bimal Gurung's present campaigning for a separate state of North Bengal, during his visit to Dooars region.
Notably, Media was not allowed to cover the meeting which was held at Dalsinghpara yesterday. Mr Gurung had held a meeting in the Hills with two separate organisations belonging to the Rajbanshi community and Adivasi community on the issue of a separate state in North Bengal. Significantly, hundreds of Rajbanshi people under the banner of The Greater Coochbehar People's Party took out a rally, to mark the martyrs day, in Cooch today.
Party chief Banshi Badan Barman led the rally. According to Banshi Badan Bannan, two Rajbanshi people and party members were killed in police firing on 20 September 2005 when we had demanded a separate state of Cooch Behar.
"During the Left regime the state government prevented us from demanding separate state. The state would not be able to prevent us. The objective of today's programme was to show our strength to achieve our goals," Mr Barman said.
