A low pressure has formed over the Bay of Bengal. The Regional Meteorological Centre in Alipore said that low pressure will turn into a depression in the next 24 hours. It will further move towards Odisha.
North 24-Parganas, South 24-Parganas, East Midnapore, Jhargram, West Midnapore will receive moderate to heavy rainfall in the next 24 hours. The coastal districts may also receive scattered rainfall on Friday.
The districts like Howrah, Hooghly, Purulia, Bankura, East Burdwan, West Burdwan, Birbhum, Murshidabad and Nadia will receive light to moderate rainfall.
The MeT office also warned of scattered heavy rainfall in five districts in North Bengal — Darjeeling, Kalimpong, Alipurduar, Cooch Behar and Jalpaiguri. An orange alert has been issued for these districts in North Bengal.
According to the MeT office prediction, the situation will improve on August 18 as the intensity of rainfall will reduce. Humidity level will again go up, giving discomfort to the city dwellers from this weekend.
A low pressure had formed over the Southern part of Bangladesh which gradually moved towards the South-West direction.
