Pipe band culture grows in Sikkim, Gangtok school in power-packed performance in Kalimpong on I-Day
Don't Miss
SUJAL PRADHAN, EOI, GANGTOK, AUGUST 17, 2023 : In the last five years Sikkim has witnessed a significant growth in pipe band culture.
The number of
schools participating in I-day
celebration has also increased
noticeably. Now more than 50
percent of the schools in Sikkim
have their own pipe bands.
Even five to six years ago, only
the Sikkim police band used to
perform during the Independence
Day and Republic Day
celebrations, but now the scenario
is quite different.
In a proud
moment for Sikkim, the Tashi
Namgyal Academy of Sikkim
made a power-packed performance
of pipe band at the historic Mela
Ground in Kalimpong during the I-
Day celebrations, with people from
the neighbouring Darjeeling and
Sikkim attending.
The team TNA
was led by music teacher Albert
Gurung. The band display was
showcased by a 30-members
contingent and this was the first
time any school from Sikkim had
displayed their band performance
n Kalimpong, a town already
famous for pipe band displays and
band performance during the I-Day
celebrations.
