Huge landslide blocks NH 717A at Pedong

YOWAN MOTHAY, MP, KALIMPONG, AUGUST 24, 2023 : A huge landslide following heavy rains has blocked the National Highway 717A near Krishna Mandir in the Pedong gram panchayat area in Kalimpong.
The traffic is comp0letely blocked as a large rock is stuck on the middle of the road. NH 717A is under construction. Vehicular traffic on the road has now been completely stopped.
People are engaged in breaking the rock. Work is going on in war-footing to restore the road to traffic as soon as possible. It may still take, however, 10 to 12 days to restore traffic because of the massive landslides and still falling stones of large size.
Expressing concern, pioneer of eco-tourism in these hills Sebastian Pradhan said on Thursday the closure of the road had caused a lot of tension as the tourist season would start within a few days.
He said people of the area were facing a lot of problems because of obstructions on the Reshi Marg caused by road construction activities.
