Hill team campaigning for Gorkhaland in Delhi gets only assurances
YOWAN MOTHAY, EOI, KALIMPONG, AUGUST 7, 2023 : The team from the hills of Darjeeling and Kalimpong which is now in Delhi to campaign for a separate state of Gorkhaland has not yet been able to achieve much beyond assurances, member of the team Sagar Pokhrel said on Monday over the phone.
During its visit, the team had met a number of Union Ministers and tried to understand their intentions regarding the formation of a Gorkhaland state as well as the vision of the Centre on the formation of Gorkhaland.
During the day, the team met Union Minister of State for Housing and Urban Affairs Kaushal Kishore and presented him with a Gorkha cap, hoping he would maintain the honour of the cap.
“The time has come for the Centre to break its silence. How long should the Gorkhas wait ? Why has there been no discussion in Parliament though it finds a place in the BJP manifesto,” asked Pokhrel.
