
Hamro Party organizing secretary Bikram resigns in wake of panchayat poll defeat

EOI, DARJEELING, AUGUST 7, 2023 : Taking responsibility for the party's defeat in the recently concluded panchayat election, Hamro Party organizing secretary Bikram Adi Rai tendered his resignation on Monday.
For the panchayat polls, the HP was in alliance with the Gorkha National Liberation Front, the Communist Party of Revolutionary Marxists, the Gorkha Janmukti Morcha, the Gorkha Rashtriya Nirman Morcha and the BJP under the banner of the United Gorkha Alliance; to take on the Bharatiya Gorkha Prajatantrik Morcha.
However, the BGPM secured the majority in most of the Gram Panchayat and Panchayat Samiti boards. The two tier panchayat election was held in the hills after a gap of 23 years.
In his resignation letter, Rai said: "I take partial responsibility of party's unexpected defeat in the recently conducted panchayat election in the Gorkhaland Territorial Administration area.
On the ground of the party's performance in the panchayat election I would like to tender my resignation from the post of the organizing secretary." In his letter, Rai said he hoped that his resignation would be accepted with a positive mindset.
"I assure you that my loyalty towards the party will remain the same and whenever the party will stand for the liberation of our community and motherland I will support my party wholeheartedly as a party cadre," said Rai.
He could not be contacted for further comments. Rai earlier was with the All India Gorkha League after which he along with others had formed the Bharatiya Gorkha Suraksha Parishad (BGSP)which is presently inactive. After leaving the BGSP he joined the HP
