Woman shot dead outside a school in Imphal West

The deceased from Churachandpur district was left behind in Imphal amid the ongoing clash as she had a habit of loitering around on streets and had been taken care of by a Naga family at Lamphel quarter.

Ukhrultimes, Imphal, 6 July 2023 : Imphal: Unidentified gunmen shot dead a middle aged woman at Kwakeithel Mayaikoibi Mamang Leikai in Imphal West District on Thursday morning. The incident reportedly took place at around 8:30 AM near Shishu Niketan school in Kwakeithel. 

Imphal West District Police team led by top officers and a team of Forensic Science rushed to the site for inquest. 

The team recovered some documents from the deceased woman. Police has registered a case and deposited the body to RIMS Morgue. The incident which took place close by the school created panic among the locals.

According to reports, the Indigenous Tribal Leaders’ Forum (ITLF), in a press release said the deceased identified as Donngaiching was a mentally ill person who did not leave Imphal despite the ethnic violence. 

“The victim, Donngaiching, was killed by Meitei gunmen near Shishu Niketan school in Kwakeithel. She used to spend her days walking aimlessly and lived in a small shed near a church in Lamphel area,” the ITLF press release said.

Imphal Free Press, Imphal, 6 July 2023 : Unknown miscreants shot a woman at Kwakeithel Mayaikoibi in Imphal West under the jurisdiction of Lamphel Police station at around 8.30 am Thursday. 

According to sources, the executive magistrate carried out an inquest on the body, and the body has been kept at RIMS mortuary after a mobile unit of state forensic science laboratory investigated the crime scene. 

The Lamphel Police Station has registered a case on the incident, the sources said, adding that the deceased was later identified as Dongngaihching Hangzo, 57, of Churachandpur district.

Dongngaihching Hangzo, was staying at Evangelical Church at Lamphel in Imphal West for the last three years was identified by her cousin Lian Hangzo.

Lian reportedly stated that Dongngaihching Hangzo was left behind in Imphal amid the ongoing clash as she had a habit of loitering around on streets and had been taken care of by a Naga family at Lamphel quarter.

Lian received information that Dongngaihching had not returned to Lamphel since Wednesday night and later received the information that she had been shot dead near Shishu Nistha Niketan, Imphal West on Thursday morning.
