KalimNews, Imphal;, 6 July 2023 : The Supreme Court of India appointed Justice Siddharth Mridul, Judge, High Court of Delhi, as the Chief Justice of the High Court of Manipur.
The Supreme Court collegium comprising of Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud, Justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul and Justice Sanjiv Khanna has proposed the appointment of Delhi High Court judge, Justice Justice Siddharth Mridul, as Chief Justice of the Manipur High Court.
“Having regard to all relevant factors, the Collegium is of the considered view that Mr Justice Siddharth Mridul is fit and suitable in all respects for being appointed as the Chief Justice of the High Court of Manipur,” the collegium said in its resolution.
The Supreme Court Collegium had on February 09 made a recommendation for elevation of Justice Dhiraj Singh Thakur as Chief Justice of Manipur High Court, which is currently pending with the Union Government.
Accordingly, the Apex Court’s Collegium has recommended that Justice Thakur be appointed as Chief Justice of Andhra Pradesh High Court, thereby necessitating a fresh recommendation for the office of Chief Justice of Manipur High Court.
The office of the Chief Justice of the High Court of Manipur fell vacant in February 2023 consequent upon the elevation of Justice P V Sanjay Kumar to the Supreme Court of India.
Justice Siddharth Mridul completed his LL.B. from Campus Law Centre, Faculty of Law, University of Delhi, in 1986. He enrolled with the Bar Council of Delhi the same year.
