UGA stages colourful victory rally in Mirik

YAWAN GURUNG, EOI, MIRIK, JULY 13, 2023 :  After the results of the panchayat elections, the United Alliance organized a victory rally and a public meeting in Mirik on Thursday. The crowded rally started from Mirik Krishnanagar Hospital More and turned into a public meeting when it reached the Super Market located in Mirik Bazar. 
Darjeeling MP Raju Bista, Communist Party of Revolutionary Marxists leader R.B. Rai, Hamro Party president Ajoy Edwards, BJP Darjeeling District Committee member Rajen Mukhia, GNLF Central Secretary General Rishi Thapa, Gorkha Jankumti Morcha Central Yuwa Morcha President Purna Singh Rai, were present. 
The elected gram panchayat and panchayat samiti members of the UGA from six gram panchayats of Mirik were present in the meeting. 
Addressing the meeting, Ajoy Edwards said that panchayat was a constitutional system. “GTA has no constitutional guarantee. That’s why we have focused on the panchayats.” 
Saying that Mirik had made history, he congratulated all the winners and losers and asked everyone to work with a vision. 
“We have to work together. The board will help everyone in the rural a reason an equal basis.” Despite the promise made by the Trinamool Congress after winning the Mirik Municipal poll six years ago that Mirik would be turned into a model municipality, nothing had been done. The GTA had become empty-handed. 
”I have asked Raju Bista, MP of Darjeeling, to develop the panchayat sector by bringing Central funds.” 
He had suggested to GTA Chief Anit Thapa it was now necessary to reach development in the rural areas by working together.
R.B. Rai said that now the hills had got the leadership of the people and said that the people needed a people's government. He thanked all Mirik residents and said the alliance should always be united.
