State allocates Rs 11 crore for college building in Alipurduar
MP | 30 July 2023 : The finance department of the Government of West Bengal has allocated about Rs 11 crore for the construction of a permanent building for Pijush Kanti Mukherjee Mahavidyalaya, in Alipurduar, on the recommendation of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.
This was a long standing demand and both college teachers and students are elated with this announcement. Sourav Chakraborty, chairman of the Siliguri Jalpaiguri Development Authority (SJDA), stated: “The three-storied college building will be constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 11 crore.
The tender process will be completed within three months. Work is scheduled to be complete by June 2024.
Any state government agency can undertake the construction. The entire infrastructure of the college will be built, ensuring that teachers and students no longer face any problems.” He added:
“Over the past 11 years, the Chief Minister has brought transformative changes to the Alipurduar district. Several universities, engineering colleges, polytechnics, ITIs and schools have been established one after the other.
The construction of the permanent building for Pijush Kanti Mukherjee Mahavidyalaya was a long-standing request, and we had informed the Chief Minister about it. We are grateful that she has now addressed the students’ concerns.”
Pijush Kanti Mukherjee Mahavidyalaya, established in 2015, is the newest college in Alipurduar district. Since it does not have its own building, the college has been conducting classes at the local Sonapur BK High School for the past eight years.
Currently, the college has approximately 700 students. The new building will include classrooms, libraries, auditoriums, laboratories, separate rooms for teachers and the principal, toilets, a front garden, roads, and other necessary facilities.
Arnab Banerjee, the principal of Pijush Kanti Mukherjee Mahavidyalaya, expressed his gratitude, saying: “We thank Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and SJDA chairman Sourav Chakraborty for allocating Rs 10.84 lakh for the college building.
The building will be constructed on the college’s 5-acre land in Laxmir Hat area of Dakshin Chakoakheti gram Panchayat, Block Number I of Alipurduar.
We are hopeful that we will conduct our college classes in our new building from the next academic year.
The overall infrastructure of the college will be significantly improved, and teachers and students will no longer face any problems.”
