Siliguri to have underground electrical cables

EOI, SILIGURI, JULY 19, 2023 : To free the cable-ridden city of Siliguri from cable clutter, around 550 km of electrical cables will be laid underground in the city.
On Wednesday, Siliguri Mayor Goutam Deb said this while addressing reporters after a virtual meeting in Siliguri with the officials of WBSEDCL.
Over a long period of time, many problems have been caused by overhead electrical cables. Fires on electric poles have been seen several times.
To solve that problem, Siliguri Municipal Corporation has planned to connect electrical cables underground. This work is being done by the electricity department. The tendeering for the entire work has started and is expected to be completed by September. Then work will start after Durga Puja.
One cable connection will be from Airview Junction to Venus Junction to Baghajatin Park, another from Children's Park in front of Siliguri Mahakuma Parishad to Seth Srilal Market via Bidhan Road, another from Panitanki Junction to Shalugarh. This work will be done in phases.
