Poll in Kalimpong and Darjeeling Hills not completed till 5 pm only 56.55% . people waiting in queue for hours

KalimNews, Kalimpong, 8 July 2023, 7.30 pm: Till 5 pm the poll percentage in the Kalimpong district was around 56.55 percent electors turned out for voting till 5 pm in the district of Kalimpong. People in several polling booths were still in the queue for casting votes and polling officers were working in the night with the help of electric and other lights. Expected time for completion of the poll process in these booths is 9 pm.  

So far no report of untoward incident and disturbance in the polling process except an attack to a BJP candidates daughter and vandalising of a vehicle in Bhalukhop.

In Kalimpong election is being conducted in 262 polling stations. Of these there are 29 polling stations in Pedong Block, 52 in Lava, 68 in Gorubathan and 113 in Kalimpong Blocks. 

In the Block of Kalimpong, the poll percentage is 59.28, in Gorubathan it is 52.76, in Lava it is 57.70 and in Pedong it is 55.46 percent. 

The votes cast in each block is as follows: In Kalimpong Block there are 32719 male and 33826 female voters (total-66545) out of which 19612 male and 19836 female voters (total 39448) exercised their voting right.

 

In Gorubathan there are 25220 male and 25934 female voters (total-51154) out of which 12899 male and 14091 female voters (total 26990) exercised their voting right. 

In Pedong Block there are 12350 male and 12031 female voters (total-24381) out of which 6816 male and 6705 female voters (total 13521) exercised their voting right. 

In Lava Block there are 17065 male and 16497 female voters (total-33562) out of which 9654 male and 9712 female voters (total 19366) exercised their voting right.

In total out of 87354 male and 88288 female electors (total 175642) in the district 48981 male and 50344 female (total 99325) electors exercised their voting rights today in the Panchayat election .

Approximately 16726 electors were in the queue at 5 pm.
