Nine youths arrested in statehood agitation in 2017 released on bail

YAWAN GURUN, EOI, GMIRIK, JULY 15, 2023 : It is an occasion for happy reunion in the hills as nine youths arrested in connection with the Gorkhaland agitation of 2017 and imprisoned for five and a half years were given bail by the Circuit Bench of Calcutta High Court and finally released from prison on Friday night.
The families were reunited among tears of joy. Among them were Shyam Kami from Kumargram, Deoraj Lepcha from Buxa Duar, Dawa Tempa Sherpa and Mahindra Kami from Birpara, Paras Mangar from Bagrakote, Nabin Rai from Rageroong, Darjeeling, Suraj Pradhan from Longview, Kurseong, Firoj Thapa rom Teesta Valley and Ashbin Gurung from Takdah Glenburn.
The families of all the youths had stood by them when they were in prison and greatly joyous in securing their release.
