Kalimpong witnesses peaceful polling

Yowan Mothay, EOI, KALIMPONG, JULY 8, 2023 : Polling for the panchayat election on Saturday was peaceful in Kalimpong.

A lot of enthusiasm was witnessed among voters in rural areas since the morning; casting their votes in a panchayat poll after a long gap of 23 years in the hills of Darjeeling and Kalimpong.

There were long queues outside polling booths. Central Industrial Security Force personnel deployed in Kalimpong to ensure peaceful polling were active since the morning.

There are a total of 1,047 candidates in the contest in the Kalimpong district, among them 233 are contesting for panchayat samity seats.
