67.21 percent poll in Kalimpong: Poll continued till morning of the next day: historical poll

KalimNews, Kalimpong, 9 July 2023: Two tier Panchyat election held in the Kalimpong and Darjeeling Hills after 23 years lasted for about 18 hours. The election procedure started at about 7 am was closed at 1 pm in some of the polling stations. 

About 67.21 percent electors turned out for voting who waited for 6-7 hours in queue in  the four blocks of the district of Kalimpong. 

In Kalimpong election was conducted in 262 polling stations. Of these there were 29 polling stations in Pedong Block, 52 in Lava, 68 in Gorubathan and 113 in Kalimpong Blocks.

The rate of poll in the Block of Kalimpong was 66.19, in Gorubathan it was 66.36, in Lava 70.63 and in Pedong it was 67.05 percent.

The votes cast in each block was as follows: In Kalimpong Block  there were 32719 male and 33826 female voters (total-66545) out of which 22414 male and 21633 female voters (total 44047) exercised their voting right.

In Gorubathan there were 25220 male and 25934 female voters (total-51154) out of which 17064 male and 16880 female voters (total 33944) exercised their voting right.

In Pedong Block there were 12350 male and 12031 female voters (total-24381) out of which 8529 male and 7818 female voters (total 16347) exercised their voting right. 

In Lava Block there were 17065 male and 16497 female voters (total-33562) out of which 12374 male and 11330 female voters (total 23704) exercised their voting right.

The total votes cast in the district was 118042 out of the 175642 voters. Male votes cast was 60381 out of 87354 voters and female votes cast was 57661 out of 88288 voters.
