4 arrested for assault and vandalism on poll day


KalimNews, Kalimpong, 9 July 2023: All four accused miscreants involved in the incident of assault and vandalism on the day of the panchayat election held on 8th July 2023 were arrested by Kalimpong Police from Sikkim. They were produced in the Kalimpong court and sent to judicial custody.

Kalimpong Police in a release stated that on 8th July 2023, at 1725 hrs, the complainant Eman Lepcha, a resident of Lamini Gaon,  Chhota Bhalukhop submitted a written complaint that at 1545 hrs he received information that four persons, namely, Saran Rai, Kishore Rai, Lachhuman Chhetri and Bikash Khawas, all of Lower Lamini Gaon, Chhota Bhalukhop, Bhalukhop GP, Kalimpong, rushed to his house with deadly weapons and drove away his small children and damaged his Bolero Vehicle bearing number WB 66 AB 0945 by use of stones and other weapons. 

When his minor daughter, aged 16 years, tried to resist, the noted accused persons attempted to outrage her modesty, and assaulted her causing severe bleeding injuries on different parts of the body and tore her clothes. 

Over this, Kalimpong PS Case No. 89/2023 u/s 341/325/354/354B/427/452/34 IPC was initiated. 

The minor girl was sent to the hospital for medical treatment and later under directions of CWC was sent to BSA shelter home for safe stay. 

Meanwhile raids started at various places of Kalimpong and on 9 July morning all 4 accused have been arrested from a hotel in Sikkim.

Eman Lepcha happens to be a BJP candidate contesting for the member of Bhalukhop Gram Panchayat 3-III and all the four accused are also the residents of the same village where Eman Lepcha resides.
