Manipur Violence: 1,095 arms, 13,702 ammunition and 250 bombs recovered

IFP, Imphal, 23 JUN 2023: As many as 1,095 arms, 13,702 ammunition and 250 bombs of different kinds have been recovered till date of the total more than 4,000 arms which were reportedly looted by mobs during the ongoing unrest from the jurisdiction of various police stations across the state.

According to a release issued from the Central Control Room of the Manipur Police, the situation is normal in most districts except for some places where there are reports of sporadic incidents.

It also informed that district security coordination committee meetings were held at the districts regularly while patrolling, flag marches and cordon and search are conducted in vulnerable areas.

The release also highlighted the various search operations being conducted by different combined teams of state and central forces at vulnerable areas particularly in fringe areas both in hill and valley districts.

The search operation was conducted at Torbung Mamang Leikai in Bishnupur district and Zou Veng, T Munnomjang, Sugnu Tribal and Serou Part-3 villages of Kakching District on Thursday, it said.

The search operation continued at Sokom, Nazareth, Lonpi Khunou, Serou Part-2 and Serou Makha Leikai in Kakching District and Karong Village in Imphal West on Friday, it added.

Stating that movement of essential items along NH-37 is ensured, it said, for the movement of loaded vehicles from Jiribam to Imphal and empty trucks from Imphal to Jiribam strict security measures are taken up and escorts are provided in the vulnerable sectors.

Additionally, curfew was relaxed for 12 to 15 hours in five valley districts, Pherzawl and Jiribam districts while eight to 10 hours in Tengnoupal, Churachandpur and Kangpokpi districts. However, there is no curfew in the remaining six hill districts, the release maintained.

Regarding a news report which mention the dead of at least four Kuki militants in a gun battle that took place on Thursday at Boljang village, Kangpokpi district, the release said, on verification of the same report with the Kangpokpi SP, no such death was reported in any of the police stations of Kangpokpi district so far.

The release also appealed to the general public to extend all possible help in bringing normalcy in the state and to return and deposit arms, ammunition and explosives to the police or security forces immediately.
