Raju Bista promises Gorkha channel of Doordarshan in Darjeeling

My next goal is to ensure the establishment of DD Gorkha Channel

PRASHANT ACHARYA, EOI, SILIGURI, 2 MAY 2023 : Darjeeling MP Raju Bista on Tuesday that a Gorkha channel of Doordarshan will be established in Darjeeling soon. He said this while on a visit to All India Radio Kurseong station.

“My next goal is to ensure the establishment of DD Gorkha Channel, and even though it may take a bit longer, but I am confident that in due course of time, we will be successful in our mission,” Bista said. 

“All India Radio Kurseong has immense significance for the people of our region. Ever since its formation in 1962, AIR Kurseong has not only been the source of information, entertainment, and education, but ialso has played a pivotal role in helping to connect our region with the rest of the nation. 

People here consider AIR Kurseong Station as apart of our cultural heritage. This station carries huge sentimental value and goodwill among the Nepali-speaking communities around the world,” he said.

“Ever since my election, I have worked tirelessly to ensure the modernization and upgradation of AIR Kurseong, and the development of radiobroadcasting infrastructure in our region. In the recent past, some individuals with vested political interests have tried to mislead the people by spreading fake information that AIR Kurseong is shutting down. 

They have also tried to needlessly create a controversy by claiming that the Kurseong TV tower would be removed. 

Contrary to their assertions, AIR Kurseong has gone from strength to strength, is becoming a hub of Nepali Language Radio Production in India. Today, AIR Kurseong broadcasts 16 hours of programmes, out of which 13 hours are dedicated to local programs. 

More importantly, AIR Kurseong has now officially become the hub of International News Broadcast in Nepali language as well.

”This, he said “has opened massive opportunities for our artists and provided a platform for -musicians, singers, actors, poets, writers, litterateurs, thinkers ,political analysts, news readers, voice over artists, and others to showcase their talents. 

This also opens up employment opportunities for our youths, as AIR Kurseong will be calling for filling up of newly created posts soon
