PRASHANT ACHARYA, EOI, SILIGURI, APRIL 11, 2023: Mystery surrounds the death of an ex-serviceman from gunshot injuries in the Down Delhi-bound Kamakhya Anand Vihar Express, a few minutes before reaching New Jalpaiguri Railway Station on Monday night.
Sanjay Singh Parmer, ex-serviceman, was found dead in a pool of blood in a general compartment of the train. Singh was a resident of Gwalior in Madhya Pradesh. The Government Railway Police have informed his family members about the incident.
Passengers of the general compartment told the GRP personnel that they heard a gunshot, followed by two more a few seconds later, moments before the train reached the station. Then they saw that Parmer's body of Parmer fell on the floor from the upper birth of the compartment.
A pistol was found next to him. The pistol was seized by the GRP. He had boarded the train at Kamakhya railway station in Assam.
Some papers found in his luggage indicated that formerly he used to serve in the army and he was a resident of Gwalior. His co-passengers informed that Parmer was in a drunken state.
Superintendent of Siliguri GRP P Selva Murugan could not be contacted. GRP personnel at the station said the body had been sent for post mortem at North Bengal Medical College and Hospital and an investigation had started.
The compartment was separated from the train for forensic tests. In the preliminary inquiry, the police suspected it to be a case of murder, and not suicide
