90-year-old raped in west Sikkim, State Commission for Women condemn
EOI, GANGTOK, APRIL 21, 2023 : The Sikkim State Commission for Women has condemned the sexual assault and rape of a 90-year-old woman in west Sikkim.
The Chairperson of the Commission said in a statement on Friday that the Commission had taken cognizance of the case and asked the police to fast track the investigation to bring the perpetrator to justice.
The Commission will provide the victim with counseling and assistance.
Incidentally, the west Sikkim incident has come close on the heels of the sexual assault and murder of a 11-year-old school student in east Sikkim.
Agencies: The victim, a 90-year-old bedridden woman at her home in west Sikkim was allegedly raped by her neighbour.
The accused has been identified as Chengda Bhutia was absconding and a lookout for the accused and a manhunt to nab him was launched by the Sikkim police.
Accused was arrested by Geyzing Police from jungle near Hungry Gumpa situated above Nesa Village, Tashiding.
