MP | 26 Mar 2023 | Alipurduar: As a run up to the forthcoming Panchayat elections, Gautam Deb arrived in Alipurduar after being appointed as the observer for the district. He held an important meeting with the front-rung leadership in Alipurduar on Sunday and laid stress on interacting with the masses.
After the meeting, Gautam Deb told the media: “My first task will be to visit all 1,100 booths in the district. I want to replace the rabbit with the tortoise as our symbol and strive towards a 50 per cent voter turnout at each booth. This will have an impact even in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
I want to personally listen to people’s complaints and understand why, despite Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s development efforts for Alipurduar, people are shying away. We need to identify the reasons.”
Gautam Deb emphasised the importance of working together under one roof and defeating the opposition alliance.
He said: “In an organisation, there may be differences of opinion but it’s not acceptable for some people to walk in a different direction going against the party’s policy.
The meeting was attended by Mridul Goswami, the chairman of the Trinamool Congress in Alipurduar district, President Prakash Chik Baraik, the Savadhipati of the Alipurduar Zilla Parishad, Shila Das Sarkar, and other district leaders.
