BGPM intensifies panchayat poll campaign: Our campaign is to change ideas. The victory of the change of ideas is coming slowly- Thapa
YOWAN MOTHAY, EOI, KALIMPONG, MARCH 25, 2023 : Bharatiya Gorkha Prajatantrik Morcha has intensified its political activities for the panchayat elections. To inform the people about the panchayat elections, the party organized a workers’ meeting in Nimbong on Saturday.
Party president Anit Thapa addressed the gathering and said, BGPM was a people-based party, not a leader-centric party. According to Thapa, within the eight months after winning the Gorkhaland Territorial Administration election the party had started to put the house in order in the GTA and had started a dialogue with the government to fulfill the promises.
The mission of BGPM was not only to win the GTA elections but the bigger goal of fulfilling the mission of the GTA, Thapa said. He deplored, however, that the enthusiasm and energy that the party cadres of yesteryears seems to be decreasing today.
Encouraging them, he said: “Our campaign is to change ideas. The victory of the change of ideas is coming slowly. We have not won the battle of ideas. Your energy and passion should be saved in bringing about this change of ideas. Winning the election by GTA does not mean that we have won the battle of ideas.”
He also said that the panchayat election had not come to the hills by itself. The BGPM had brought it back. He said the hills were now free from the atmosphere of fear, that’s why the people could now speak openly.
“If it were yesterday, they would have to run away. If they had spoken so much as they are saying today, their houses would have been burned down. The people of the hills should not be afraid, but be aware."
