Woman buried under mud, dies in Soureni Mirik

YAWAN GURUNG, EOI, MIRIK, FEBRUARY 26, 2023 : Neelam Rai, a resident of Soureni Lower Busty, died on Sunday while digging mud for her house, a little far from Manju Park, in the Mirik Subdivision.
According to the information received, six women from Lower Soureni busty came to Manjushree Park on Sunday to collect mud. Among them, Neelam Rai was digging mud in a big tunnel. While she was inside the tunnel, a big lump of mud fell from the tunnel and the woman was buried under it. Her friends who came to her rescue, tried to pull her out.
Local residents also tried to pull her out. After about 15 minutes, when they managed to pull her out and take her to Mirik Health Centre, the doctor declared her dead. She had gone collect mud to cover her house.
Personnel of Mirik Fire Department also reached the scene of the incident and assisted in the rescue work.
