Sikkim takes the initiative to Delhi on Article 371F, court judgment


PRAKASH ADHIKARI, EOI, GANGTOK, FEB 6, 2023: Sikkim Ministers, politicians and civil society members took a series of initiatives in Delhi on Monday to ensure that the sanctity of Article 371F of  the Constitution was honoured.
Chief Minister of Sikkim Prem Singh Tamang, together with Sikkim assembly speaker Arun Upreti, Tourism Minister Bedu Singh Panth and M.P. Lok Sabha Indra Hang Subba met Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla and also informed him about there view petition that the Sikkim Government had filed before the apex court in relation to some Indra Hang Subba with Jagdeep Dhankar observations made by the court in a judgment on January 13 on income tax exemption for old settlers of Sikkim.
M.P. Indra Hang Subba met Vice President Jagdeep Dhankar and told him that the observations made in the judgment of the Supreme Court had deeply hurt the sentiments of the Sikkimese Nepali community.
Meanwhile, members of the Citizen Action Party left for Delhi to hold a dharna at Jantar Mantar to seek to redress the grievances of the Sikkimese Nepali community. About 500members of the CAP would take part in the dharna on February 9. (With inputs from IPR
