Ajoy Edwards demands meeting of GTA

YAWAN GURUNG, EOI, 6 February 2023: Hamro Party president and Gorkhaland Territorial Administration sabhasad Ajoy Edwards has demanded that a meeting of the GTA beheld soon. He told reporters in Mirik on Monday that a meeting of the GTA assembly should be held in three months, but no meeting of the GTA had been held in the past five months. 

“We also have a lot to say. We want to ask what they did in the Kolkata visit,” Edwards said.

He said the GTA did not have the capacity to solve the problems facing the hill society. Ninety percent of the roads in the rural areas were in a poor shape. There were many shortages and problems. 

“There is not much expectation from those who had gone to Kolkata. Now there is need for community unity. There was also a need for mutual harmony. I had not been invited to the Bhumi Puja at Manjushree Park for the memorial in honour of Subash Ghisingh and his wife Dhankumari Ghisingh. Yet, I went to show the unity of the community and to pay homage to Subash Ghisingh and his wife.”

He said there should be a tripartite meeting between the tea worker unions, the garden management and the West Bengal Government to solve the problems of Bansal tea garden. 

Edwards said he was working with the Bharatiya Gorkhaland Sangharsh Samiti on the Gorkhaland issue.
