GTA lobbies in Kolkata for schemes to help farmers in the hills

Yawan Gurung, EOI, MIRIK, FEB 2 2023:  Chief Executive Officer of Gorkhaland Territorial Administration Anit Thapa along with executive members of the GTA and members looking after various departments are understood to be currently on a visit to Kolkata where they are meeting with Ministers and officials of various departments of the West Bengal government to work out schemes for the benefit of the common people and take care of problems and shortages that have been faced with in the GTA area.
Executive Member Agriculture Satish Pokhrel and Public Health Engineering Sabhasad from Mirik Milesh Rai have met State Agriculture Minister Sovandeb Chattopadhyay to discuss issues relating to agriculture.
According to Milesh Rai, most of the GTA area is an agricultural area, most of the people being dependent on agriculture and horticulture. The GTA members have asked the State Agriculture Department to take initiatives to develop agriculture in the hills. They have also discussed the issue of government assistance and concessions reaching the farmers in time. 
The government has been informed that there is a big potential to develop agriculture and horticulture in the GTA area. The issue of setting up an office of Assistant Director Agriculture in Mirik has also been discussed as Mirik has become a sub-division.
