YOWAN MOTHAY, EOI, KALIMPONG, FEB 2, 2023: The Duara Sarkar scheme of the West Bengal government which had stalled in between has resumed now. Under this, various welfare schemes of the State Governmentlike ration at a concessional rate are reaching the doorsteps of the beneficiaries.
On Thursday, a ration shop owner distributed ration in various places of the Kalimpong district. The owner of the ration shop located eight kilometres from the town distributed ration during the day after taking the items to a Lepcha village.
Consumers said they were benefitting from the new scheme prepared by the State Government. Otherwise, they would have had to walk uphill for an hour and 45minutes to get their ration. The consumer of Lower Nursery village said it took them nearly 20 minutes to reach the Bypass Road.
From there, one had to travel a long distance to the ration shop. In a car, it took at least Rs40 to reach the ration shop. Often cars were not available and one had to reserve a vehicle to reach the ration shop. This was far more costly. Now the distribution of ration by setting up camps in different places had helped the Lepcha village
