
Golay to be tough with government employees not working for people
PRAKASH ADHIKARI, EOI, SORENG, FEBRUARY 26, 2023 : Chief Minister of Sikkim Prem Singh Tamang on Sunday conveyed the message that he was going to be tough with government employees who were not cooperating with the people-centric work of his government.
“I will now be strict with employees who do not cooperate in people’s work, taking advantage of my mildness,” he said while addressing the closing event of the Kaustabh Jayanti ceremony of Pakkigao Government Secondary School in Soreng. He said there was not enough support from some government departments and a section of government employees in people’s work.
The Chief Minister also asked for a list of officials of the district administration who had not attended the day’s event. In his speech, the Chief Minister congratulated the school and the local citizens for completing the 75h anniversary of Pakkigaon School and said the school had played an important role in the development of Sikkim by preparing competent human resources.
Speaking on the education system, the Chief Minister said that when in 2019 the Sikkim Krantikari Morcha came to government, 90 percent of the senior secondary schools in Sikkim did not have principals.
Primary, lower secondary and secondary schools in many places did not have a school head. Only in the bazaar school, teachers used to pile up. “But after the SKM came to form the government, we have sent all the teachers to these schools".
He said that the government has made a policy to make permanent temporary teachers who had completed eight years of service. The Chief Minister said that now Sanskrit language would be taught in schools from the first grade.
He said the Chief Minister’s Merit Scholarship would now be extended from grade 12 to the college. The government would provide Rs 5 lakh to students of Sikkim whose education in Ukraine had been affected due to the war. The government was also helping students who were preparing for the UPSC examinations.
The Chief Minister said that 16,000 mothers would begiven at the rate of Rs 20,000under the Mother Empowerment Scheme on March 3. The amount for the mothers would be disbursed every year under the scheme.
Under the Sikkim Garib Awas Yojana, the Chief Minister said that 11,000 houses would be built for the poor. But for all these schemes, the names of the poorest beneficiaries should be chosen from the ward concerned.
The Chief Minister said the needs and demands of the people would be ascertained by visits to every constituency by March 13 for the preparation of the State Budget. The Chief Minister inaugurated the "Kaustubh Pillar" at Pakkigaon School and released the book "Smaran," prepared by Pakkigaon School focusing on Kaustubh Jayanti.
