Wife’s social media post leads to arrest of man with rare baby turtles
EOI, SILIGURI, 12 DECEMBER 2022: The West Bengal Forest Department has held a man in the Sanghati More area of Siliguri for having possession of two baby turtles of a rare species. He has later been arrested.
It was learnt that several days ago the man had acquired the baby turtles and carefully placed them in an aquarium. Everything was hidden from the public eye.
The trouble started when his wife uploaded a video of the two turtles on social media. The Forest Department took notice of the video, held the man and recovered the turtles.
After interrogating him, officials of Belakoba Forest Range had come to know that he had bought the two turtles from a businessman in Siliguri for a large sum of money. The businessman has also been arrested.
