Sikkim government keen to ensure tribal status for 12 left-out communities: Golay

IPR, Gangtok, 13 December 2022: Minister of Sikkim Prem Singh Tamang on Tuesday attended the Akhil Sikkim Chettri Bahun Kalyan Sangh cultural programme at Manan Kendra, Gangtok. The celebration saw myriad cultural dance forms and songs about the Khas community. 
He congratulated the Khas community on the foundation laying ceremony of Khas Bhawan, which he said thanked the Khas community and congratulated the community on the foundation laying ceremony of Khas Bhawan, which he said would soon be extended from 2,600 sq. ft to 6,000 sq. ft.
He requested the community members to commercialize the Bhawan premises to generate revenue, enabling self-sustenance. 
Touching on the subject of students belonging to the Khas community, he highlighted various schemes provided by the government to assist them in their endeavour financially .
Talking about the recent developments of the tribal status of 12 left-out communities, the Chief Minister apprised about the status of these communities and how the present government aimed to provide tribal status to these communities by enacting a government bill in the State Assembly. 
He said his administration would leave no stone unturned in getting atraditional Bhawan for each community in Sikkim.
