Though the issue had been brought to the notice of the Food and Supplies Department, it did not intervene. Tara Sundas told reporters that for the past seven Tara Sundas addressing news persons months ration card holders were not getting kerosene, especially in the Kalimpong Block– I and Kalimpong Municipal areas.
The Food and Supplies Department was informed about this last September. There was information, however, the supply of kerosene was being collected from the Indian Oil Depot every month.
According to reports, a total of 650,000litres of kerosene had been collected from the IOC Depot since last May. The CPI(M)leader suspected that the supply of kerosene was being taken away by a “kerosene mafia.” Fake bills and cash memos were circulating in shops, Tara Sundas said.
