4 bills introduced in Lok Sabha to revise ST lists in as many states


PTI | New Delhi | December 10, 2022 : Four separate bills were introduced in Lok Sabha on Friday to revise the lists of Scheduled Tribes in as many states.
Union Tribal Affairs Minister Arjun Munda introduced the Constitution (Scheduled Tribes) Order (Amendment) Bills for Chhattisgarh, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Himachal Pradesh. 
The Constitution (Scheduled Tribes) Order (Second Amendment) Bill seeks to to modify the list of Scheduled Tribes in Tamil Nadu. Similarly, the Constitution (Scheduled Tribes) Order (Third Amendment) Bill aims to provide for inclusion of certain communities in the list of Scheduled Tribes in Himachal Pradesh. 
Another bill seeks to modify the list of Scheduled Tribes in Karnataka. The fourth bill aims to include certain communities in the list of Scheduled Tribes in Chhattisgarh. 
From time to time, the government brings such bills to give effect to modifications proposed by various states in relation to the ST list.

TH: On the third day of the ongoing Winter Session, the government introduced four Bills in the Lok Sabha that seek to modify the Scheduled Tribes list in Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Himachal Pradesh and Chhattisgarh. 
A heated debate broke out between Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury and BJP’s Nishikant Dubey over demonetisation, right before the House paused for lunch. 
MP Kirodi Lal Meena introduced a Bill in the Upper House to provide for the constitution of the National Inspection and Investigation Committee for preparation of Uniform Civil Code and its implementation throughout India, but not without pushback from the Opposition.

On Thursday, the Rajya Sabha passed the Wild Life Protection (Amendment) Bill, 2022 and took up the Energy Conservation (Amendment) Bill, 2022, for consideration and passing. Members of the Opposition, meanwhile, staged a walkout from the Lok Sabha in protest against the Speaker as they claimed that they were not being allowed to raise issues in the House.
