River Ghis needs to be bridged forthe benefit of people of Kalimpong
Don't Miss
YOWAN MOTHAY, EOI, KALIMPONG, 13 NOVEMBER 2022 : There is need for the construction of a bridge on river Ghis to connect Constituency no. 43 with Constituency no. 41 in Kalimpong.
The present road connection through Gyasok Ghanti hill is a complicated one. During the rainy season the road is completely blocked. With a bridge across Ghis, many villages will benefit, say villagers.
Besides, the flow of traffic to Oodlabari, Siliguri, Malbazar and Bagrakote would be much easier. During the rainy season, people of these areas have to face extensive problems. Jagu Rai, a resident of the area, says people have to store food during the rainy season.
Vegetables grown locally cannot be sent to the market for sale. It is easy to travel to Oodlabari, Siliguri, Malbazar, and other places through the river route only during winter.
Vehicles also move through the river. But with the onset of monsoon, the traffic is completely stopped due to the rise in the water level of river Ghis. Applications have been sent to the authorities for the construction of a bridge across the river, but there has been no response.
