17 STATES and OVER 380 GORKHA ASSOCIATIONS FROM ACROSS INDIA PARTICIPATE IN BHARATIYA GORKHA PARISANGH’S CAMPAIGN TO REMIND HON’BLE PRIME MINISTER OF HIS ASSURANCES ON GORKHA DEMANDS

REMINDER LETTER SUBMITTED TO THE PRIME MINISTER ON GORKHALAND AT DISTRICT ADMINISTRATIVE OFFICES 


PR, KalimNews, Kalimpong, November 10, 2022: Having waited for action on the assurance of the Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi, to the Gorkhas of India in Siliguri on April 10, 2014 that the dreams of the Gorkhas were his own dream too (Gorkhao ka sapna mera sapna), Bharatiya Gorkha Parisangh sent him a reminder letter on Thursday, November 10, 2022, asking him to speedily fulfill the dream of the Gorkhas by creating a Gorkhaland State under Article 3 (a) of the Indian Constitution. 

The reminder letters were sent to the Prime Minister through the district magistrates, sub-divisional officers, block development officers and other district officials on November 10, 2022, in 17 states of India. These were Gujarat, Uttarakhand, West Bengal, Sikkim, Jharkhand, Delhi, Haryana, Assam, Mizoram, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Tripura, Arunachal Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Karnataka and Jharkhand. Many districts and regional committees in these states submitted multiple reminder letters at various district offices.

Many social organisation joined the campaigned and signed the letter with their organisation seals. In Bharatiya Gorkha Parisangh’s administrative Zone 2, comprising West Bengal, Sikkim and Jharkhand, 304 social organisation co-signed the letter to the Hon’ble Prime Minister. Across India, over 380 Gorkha organisations concurred on the demand and co-signed the letters.

Copies of the reminder letter was also sent by Speedpost to the Prime Minister at his office in New Delhi.

Non-Gorkha organisations also endorsed Bharatiya Gorkha Parisangh’s campaign, including The National Federation for New States from Nagpur in Maharashtra and JACAS (Joint Action Committee for Autonomous States) from Karbi-Anglong in Assam. Among the Gorkha organisations that endorsed the reminder campaign were Assam’s Assam Gorkha Sammellan, All Assam Gorkha Students’ Union, Assam Nepali Sahitya Sabha, Nagaland Gorkha Association, Lucknow’s Bharatiya Gorkha Sewa Samaj, Kanpur’s Nepali Dharma Samaj, GDNS (Darjeeling, Kalimpong and Kurseong), MARG, MBKS from Darjeeling, several ex-servicemen bodies and numerous others from different states. 

The reminder letter says, “On behalf of Indian Gorkhas and Gorkha organisations, Bharatiya Gorkha Parisangh requests you to kindly take steps to create a separate state under Article 3(a) of the Indian Constitution and thus fulfill the long-standing wish of the Gorkhas of India. We repose faith in you and hope you will have the dream of the Gorkhas for a state of their own fulfilled as quickly as possible.”
