YAWAN GURUNG, EOI, MIRIK, SEPT 22, 2022:  On Wednesday, teagarden workers of different tea gardens of the Mirik subdivision came out on the streets of Mirik to demand 20 percent of Puja bonus in one instalment.
The tea workers participated in a rally organized by the Tea Workers' Protection Committee in which thousands of tea workers participated, carrying placards in protest against the "injustice and suppression of the garden owners". The rally started from Mirik Block Primary Health Centre premises which after parading Mirik Krishna Nagar and Mirik Bazar ended at Super Market where a meeting was held. Addressing the gathering, leader of the Committee Anil Rana said it was regrettable that the tea workers could not get their rights on time and every year they had to hold rallies to get their bonus. Tilak Lungeli said political leaders visited houses of tea workers only at the time of the election but would do nothing fo rthe benefit of the tea workers after getting elected. Pramod Chhetri said bonus at less than 20 percent would not be accepted.
