Plan for restoring the dignity of a heritage school in Kalimpong

Experimental school affiliated to the Kalimpong Government Primary Teachers Training Institute (BT College) needs restoration

YOWAN MOTHAY, EOI, KALIMPONG, SEPTEMBER 12, 2022: Even as Chief Executive Officer of the Gorkhaland Territorial Administration Anit Thapa has expressed his resolve to improve the quality of primary education in the hills of Darjeeling, GTA Deputy Chief Executive Sanchbir Subba during his recent visit to the Government Lower Basic School in Kalimpong had a first-hand experience of the state of things.
Teacher of the school Lalit Subba said on Monday it was raining when he visited the school. As a result, he could experience water entering the classroom through leaks in the roof of the school building. The school was built in 1950 under the First Plan. It was an experimental school affiliated to the Kalimpong Government Primary Teachers Training Institute (BT College).
Candidates coming to the BT College would get their theoretical training in the BT College and the teaching experience at the school. The school was thus known as an 'experimental school. 'After witnessing the condition of the school building Sanchbir Subba discussed the problem with GTA engineer Paras Dahal who was with him. He also discussed various other problems of the school with headteacher Rudra Karki and other teaching and non-teaching staff of the school. The school had a special dignity and it was the dream of Chairman of Kalimpong District Primary School Board Harka Bahadur Chhetri to bring back the old glory of the school.
On the occasion, Sanchbir Subba also visited the Government Primary Teachers Training Institute where he was welcomed by Principal Dipti Tamang.
