Anit Thapa wants World Bank-aided power grid modernization project implemented in hills

Anit Thapa met West Bengal Power Minister Aroop Biswas in Siliguri 

YAWAN GURUNG, EOI, MIRIK, SEPTMEBER 12, 2022: Chief Executive Officer of Gorkhaland Territorial Administration Anit Thapa has requested the West Bengal Government to implement in the GTA area the World Bank - financed West Bengal Electricity Distribution Grid Modernization Project, said a GTA Press release issued on Monday. 

Anit Thapa met West Bengal Power Minister Aroop Biswas in Siliguri on Sunday and said since the WBEDGMP scheme was in the pipeline, it should be implemented in the GTA region as well. GTA had the credentials to implement such projects.

"In our meeting I highlighted the work of GTA power department," Anit Thapa said. The GTA power department had successfully implement West Bengal Electricity Distribution Grid modernization work and already completed the rural electrification project under Deen Daya Upadhyaya Gram Jyoti Yojana scheme. So, I asked his help in designating GTA as the project implementing agency for the upcoming World Bank - aided WBEDGMP for the GTA region." GTA was already in touch with the departmental heads on the issue. Anit Thapa who said "rebuilding Darjeeling and Kalimpong hills" was the "utmost priority" of the GTA, said the Power Minister assured him of granting GTA the status of the project implementing agency. The Minister said the West Bengal Government was keen to help in developing the infrastructure in the hills, be it road development or water supply; through state-project
