One year maternity leavefor teachers in Sikkim, one month paternity leave

SUJAL PRADHAN, EOI, GANGTOK, AUGUST 2, 2022 : The Sikkim Government has notified maternity leave for teachers.
Female teachers under the Education Department shall be granted maternity leave for 365 days. Out of this, they can avail themselves of 60 days of leave before the expected date of delivery.
Male teachers under the Education Department can avail of 30 days of paternity leave during the same period.
Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang on the occasion of the Children's Day celebration and State award to Teachers 2021 announced an increase in the period of maternity leave for teachers from six months to one year from the next financial year.
The Chief Minister had pointed out that the World Health Organization, too, had said mothers after giving birth needed one year of maternity leave.
As per the existing rule, mothers working in the government sector in Sikkim can avail six months of maternity leave while paternity leave is for 15days.
