Floriculture turns into tourist attraction in Kalimpong

Pineview nursery is exporting orchids and importing cactus

YOWAN MOTHAY, EOI, KALIMPONG, AUGUST 10, 2022: Besides being a source of income, the tradition of floriculture in Kalimpong is now turning out to be a tourist attraction too. Various nurseries in Kalimpong are now witnessing a rush of tourists. On Wednesday, at Pine View Nursery, located at 8 Miles, many tourists were seen enjoying different varieties of cactus. There has been an increase in the number of tourists visiting Pine View Nursery because cactus blooms and grows well in the summer months.
Owner of Pine View Nursery Nivedita Pradhan said there had been a significant increase in the arrival of visitors this year, compared to the previous year. A favourable weather allowed variety in floriculture in Kalimpong. There was still a lot of scope for floriculture in Kalimpong.  This could be an important source of income for the people of the area. Many people were making a living, cultivating flowers. Pradhan said her nursery was exporting orchids and importing cactus. In her nursery there were cactus varieties imported from America. 
As cultivation of cactus required a hot climate, the nursery had set up plastic houses to simulate artificial summer days. artificially. Her message to the flower growers was: "Cultivate flowers. I am going to buy it." Asha Ghosh, a tourist who had come to visit Pine View Nursery, said: "I had heard a lot about Pine View Nursery. It was my dream for many years to come. So we came to visit Pine View Nursery today as we are visiting Kalimpong with family. I like cactus very much. I am very happy today. Saw many cactus varieties here. There are many beautiful species of cactus." Pine View Nursery was established in 1971 by Mohan S.Pradhan. The nursery has received various awards.
