Sources said Mithun Das, a resident of Sixth Mile near Tapshikhata under Alipurduar police station, was a habitual drunkard and used to torture his parents every day.
Recently, the situation had turned so awful that Paresh, his father, stayed away from his home for around a month. Paresh returned home aA “On Sunday night, Mithun returned home in a drunken state and started abusing and assaulting his parents. This made Paresh react and he fastened his son’s limbs and strangulated him to death,” said a source.
Police recovered Mithun’s body on Monday morning and arrested his father Paresh.
Smugglers arrested
Troops of 61 battalion of the Border Security Force (BSF) posted at Bhimpur border outpost in South Dinajpur onday apprehended a suspected Indian smuggler while he was trying to smuggle cough syrups and injections to Bangladesh on Sunday.
The arrested person is a resident of Trimohini that is under Hilli police station of the district.
In another drive, another team of the same battalion intercepted a Bangladeshi national while he was trying to infiltrate into India.
The arrested youth, who hails from Gaibandha district of Bangladesh, is suspected to be a smuggler, BSF sources said.
The arrested duo have been handed over to the police.
“The BSF also apprehended a Bangladeshi woman who had inadvertently crossed the international border. Later, she was handed over to Border Guard Bangladesh,” said a source.
Moreover, the BSF carried out raids in different locations near the IndoBangla border on Sunday and Monday and seized a number of contraband items including cattle and cannabis.
The cost of the seized items is around Rs 3.08 lakh, sources said.
