Students of all government and aided schools in West Bengal to get blue and white uniforms

TT: Students of all government, semi-government and government-aided schools in West Bengal will have sky-blue and white uniforms stitched by members of self-help groups (SHGs), officials from the state education department have said.

The West Bengal government has already directed the state education department to make arrangements for the same. Further, directions have been sent to the block department officers (BDO) as well.

The uniforms will be stitched by tailoring SHGs. The respective BDOs will send SHG workers to the schools across West Bengal to take measurements of the students.

The government has notified that till Class V, male students will be given a full-pant with a full-sleeve shirt and a half-sleeve shirt with a half-pant. From classes VI to VIII, male students will be given a full-sleeve shirt, half-sleeve shirt with two full length pants.

Female students till Class V will receive two shirts, one skirt and a tunic, while girls of Classes VI to VIII will receive two salwar-kameez sets with one dupatta.

The uniforms will be the same for all school with no alterations in colour or design. Earlier, schools could make changes in their uniforms across classes. The school logo, badge and tie will be provided by the education department.

The decision has been taken by chief minister Mamata Banerjee to empower the self-help groups and promote the fabrics made in Bengal.
