TT Special Correspondent | Calcutta | 07.03.22 : Bengal on Sunday reported 90 new Covid-19 infections, including 14 from Calcutta.
The state also logged 138 recoveries and two deaths, resulting in a drop in the total of active cases by 50 to 1,653.
Sunday was the 49th consecutive day of a drop active cases in Bengal in the third wave, resulting in an improvement by 99 per cent in the total since January 17. Prior to this turnaround, the total active caseload had gone up nearly 22 times between December 28 and January 16, to 1.6 lakh.
The positive confirmation rate or the percentage of samples testing positive was 0.42 per cent on Sunday. The positive confirmation rate has been below 1 per cent for 17 consecutive days.
On January 10, the positive confirmation rate had reached an all-time high for the state at 37.32.
The state’s recovery rate rose to 98.87 per cent.
Between December 29 and January 16, it had dropped by eight percentage points, before recovering by over eight percentage points.
The state’s mortality rate is 1.05 per cent.
There have been nearly 20.16 lakh cases, since the first was detected in the state in March 2020.
The total includes over 19.93 lakh recoveries and 21,180 deaths.
