Instead, she got a piece of the moon.

Akash, an electrical engineer working with the Englishbazar Municipality, gave Debjani the deed of a lunar property mailed to him by a website, https://lunarregistry.com. The deed says they own an acre of land on moon bought for 68 US dollars.

Although the young couple laughingly said they had no plan of moving to the moon, Akash added that the amount he paid for the purchase would go into funding space research projects, which the website claimed.

Akash, an MTech, said he liked new and offbeat plans and ideas. Hence, ahead of their second anniversary, he wanted to surprise his wife with an uncommon gift.

“While browsing the Internet, I came across a website that offers land on the moon. I decided to buy the lunar property online to bewilder Debjani. The website asked for a feasible sum ...  The deed of the lunar property reached me through mail. I kept it a secret and then handed it over to my wife on our wedding anniversary on February 10,” the young engineer said.

However, the couple also made it clear that purchasing lunar property was nothing more than a concept.

“The organisation offered us an opportunity to be happy on our wedding anniversary in a different way. The sum collected worldwide by offering such deeds of lunar properties goes to different organisations engaged in space research. In effect, we have bought happiness by paying an amount that will help in space research,” Akash said.
