Darjeeling shivers after bout of snowfall: minimum temperature recorded -0.5

Don't Miss

SNS, DARJEELING, 1 FEBRUARY 2022: A cold wave continued to sweep the Queen of Hills, Darjeeling, today, with some areas witnessing light snowfall and minus temperatures.
Mercury plummeted after even the town area received light snowfall for a very brief period with the minimum temperature recorded here today being -0.5.
However, places like Chattakpur near Sonada received a good amount of snowfall for the fourth time this winter season. Temperatures in Darjeeling have seen a dip for over a week now, with occasional
rainfall and snowfall experienced here.
*The weather this time is colder than last year. The snowfall this time is also being seen to be frequent, which might be due to the Covid lock-downs in the recent past. Due to less vehicles moving around, the pollution level might have gone down," said a Darjeeling local, Pratiksha Gurung.
As temperatures dropped further in the evening, people were seen hurrying to the warmth of their houses, while some huddled around bonfires to keep themselves warm.
The town area in Darjeeling last saw snowfall on 29 December last year.
