BGPM promises mini civic bodies in every Darjeeling municipal ward

EOI, DARJEELING, FEB 8, 2022:  The Bharatiya Gorkha Prajatantrik Morcha has promised to form mini civic bodies in all the 32 wards of Darjeeling Municipality for the benefit of the citizens in the event of its candidates winning the February 27 Municipality election.
BGPM general secretary Amar Lama who has been projected by BGPM for the post of the chairman of the municipality on Tuesday said: "Providing basic civic amenities is of utmost importance. We have found that citizens have problems coming to the main municipality office to get their work done. Therefore, we have come upon the idea of opening offices in the wards itself, so that people find it convenient."
"Issues like solid waste management and upgradation of the Darjeeling municipality to a Municipal Corporation are among the agendas of BGPM. All 32 candidates of the BGPM filed their nomination papers in the office of the Darjeeling District Magistrate during the day. After filing his nomination,".
Lama said it was time to focus on campaigning for the election. "Preparations for the elections are in progress. We will go door to door to ask people to vote for better governance. Our campaign will be intensive because this election is an acid test for us, to prove our standing politically," he said.
After its formation last year, BGPM will be contesting its first election. The party is an alliance of Trinamool Congress but has decided to go alone to ensure the survival of regional politics.
Trinamool and Gorkha Janmukti Morcha are in an informal alliance as both have decided not field candidates in each other's turf.
Trinamool Congress has fielded 10 candidates and the GJM 13 so far. Candidates from both the parties will file their nomination on Wednesday, which is the last day of filing the nomination papers.
The BJP, Gorkha National Liberation Front and Hamro Party have not made any announcement but it is learnt that their candidates will file their papers.
