Two K'pong pupils to take part in Children's Science Congress

SNS, DARJEELING, 29 JANUARY 22 : In a first, two students from Kalimpong have been selected to take part in the National Children's Science Congress (NCSC).
The two chosen for the 29th edition of the NCSC are Deepshika Khanal, a class XI (Science) student of St George's HS School at Pedong, and Mrinal Lepcha of class X of the Pranami Balika Vidhya Mandir.
"It is for the first time that two schools has been selected from our district. We are proud of both of them, and wish them all the best for the national level. It will be held front 15-18 February online with the theme 'Science for sustainable living,– the coordinator for the NCSC Kalimpong District Committee, AK Rai, said.
According to Mr Rai, the two students were first chosen in the district level of the NCSC held on 5th and 6th December last year, along with two others, out of the 13 projects that had been placed by different schools.
"The four projects that were chosen were sent to the NCSC state level meeting held from 13th January to 17th this year. From the 160 projects sent by schools from the 23 districts of Bengal, 30 were selected to represent the state in the national level," said Mr Rai.
According to him, Deepshika's project titled 'Preparation of Yeast Cake by Indigenous Tribes of Kalimpong Hills' and Mrinal's 'NH-10 Teesta Bridge to Rambhi Bridge, Planning to Prevent Ecological Hazard' have been selected for the national level. While Deepshika is being guided by her teacher Leo Chettri and helped by group member Bhumika Tamang, Mrinal is being guided by her teacher Binita Thapa and helped by group member Pasang Lhamu Sherpa.
The NCSC is the flagship program of the National Council for Science and Technology Communication, Department of Science and Technology, Government of India.
