
Nine does, 5 staff test positive at Raigunj

SNS, RAIGANJ, 6 JANUARY 22 : Nine doctors, including Principal Dr Kaushik Samaddar, along with five other staff of the Raiganj Medical College & Hospital in North Dinajpur district have tested positive for Covid-19, officials said. All of them are, however, in home isolation.
Following the development, authorities at the Raiganj Municipality have started an intensive campaign in different wards to make people aware of the need to follow the Covid protocol and wear masks and use the sanitizer.
"A total of 14 staff, including nine doctors, our Principal and five medical technologists, were tested positive yesterday. They are in home isolation," the Vice-Principal ey are in home isolation," the Vice-Principal of the Raiganj Medical College & Hospital, Dr Priyankar Roy, said.
According to the Chairman of the Raiganj Municipality, Sandip Biswas, civic body staff, along with ward councilors, distributed face masks among the people at market places today. "We also organised an awareness drive among the ward residents and asked them to use the mask to protect themselves from Covid," Mr Biswas said.
The Chief Medical Officer of Hlealth (CMOH) of North Dinajpur, Dr Puran Kumar Sharma, said they have already opened two safe homes to fight the "third wave" of the virus. "One such home has been opened in the Itahar Home Guard training centre at Gotlu, another has been made functional at the Islampur polytechnic college. We have arranged for 150 isolation beds for Covid patients in the Raiganj Medical College, and 35 beds in the Islampur Super specialty Hospital," Dr Sharma said.
